Dr. Peter Harry Contompasis

Peter Harry Contompasis M.D. of Winchester MA passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 He was 102 years of age.

Peter was born in Schenectady New York; the firstborn of four children born to the late Harry and Eugenia (Lalooses) Contompasis who passed through Ellis Island in the early 1900's.

After moving to Roslindale MA, Peter attended Boston Latin School, Harvard University and Tufts University School of Medicine. He served in the United States Army during World War II and retired as a captain from the US Air Force.
Peter had a very busy medical practice as a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology and still found time to be an instructor for many years to Tufts Medical students which he thoroughly enjoyed.

After Peter retired, he took up painting as a hobby and gifted his artwork to many relatives and friends over the years. He also enjoyed traveling, reading and keeping up with current events and local sports.

Peter was a devout Christian and faithful member of Grace Chapel in Lexington for many years and taught Sunday School and volunteered there in many other ways. He will be remembered with heartfelt love from those who were fortunate to have known him. He led a rich life and his legacy will live on.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betty" (Getchell) Contompasis of Winchester MA, daughter Michele Mouradian of Arlington MA, daughter Lisa Sternberg and her husband Karl of Hampden MA, son Stephen Contompasis of Fremont NH, son Jeffrey Contompasis and his wife Kristin of Ashburn VA, brother Michael Contompasis and his wife Joan of Chestnut Hill MA. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Judith (Merrill) Contompasis, sisters Jeanette Baskous and Helen Nahatis and son-in-law James Mouradian.

Visiting hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. Winchester on Wednesday September 3rd from 6-8 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Chapel Lexington on Thursday September 4th at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. Contributions in Peter's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
