Lois Irene (Wavra) Proulx, 94, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Crookston, MN. She was born in Crookston, MN, on March 5, 1931, daughter of Cyril and Bertha (Goosen) Wavra. Lois attended the Dorothy school for her primary education and graduated from LaFayette High School in Red Lake Falls, MN. Lois was wed to Paul M. Proulx on October 14, 1950, and together raised their family in Crookston.
Lois was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Dorothy Catholic Church, Dorothy, MN. Lois was a woman of faith and instilled the foundation of faith in all her children. An adult member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN, Lois was a devoted participant of weekly Eucharistic Adoration.
Lois was a woman of many talents and interests. Her first professional job was with the Crookston Daily Times. Lois enjoyed a good game of Scrabble and was interested in learning new things with family and friends. She was an excellent cook and was known for her delicious baked goods, pies and summer garden produce. As an experienced seamstress, Lois sewed her children's clothing as well as creating many custom garments for special events in their lives. She was also a valued member of the local hospital auxiliary where she spent many years with the sewing group. Lois served many years as treasurer for the Holy Rosary Circle and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Surviving family members include eleven children: Greg (Marilyn) Proulx, Waconia, MN; Jennifer (Stuart) Ohr, Wanamingo, MN; Mike (Krista) Proulx, Crookston; Patty (Ed) Amiot, Crookston; Brad (Diane) Proulx, Roseville, MN; Barb (Tom) Rock, Grapevine, TX; Tom (Wanda) Proulx, Crookston; Colleen (John) Lunski, Grand Forks, ND; Chuck (Cindy) Proulx, Ham Lake, MN; Dan (Sherry) Proulx, Plymouth, MN; and Michelle (Tom) Senger, East Grand Forks, MN; 30 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Paul's family members: Jack Ferris, Ed (Char) Proulx, Daniel Proulx, George (Diana) Proulx.
Preceded in death: Husband Paul, Parents Cyril and Bertha (Goosen) Wavra, Brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth & Helen Wavra, Sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen & Jack Peterson, infant sister Mary Agnes, Great-granddaughter Kambrynn Ronningen; Paul's family members: Earl & Peggy Proulx, Alma Ferris, Roma "Stu" & Marie Chaput, Noel Proulx, Edward L. Proulx, Joan Proulx, Harvey & Priscilla Helgeson and many extended family members and friends.
May Lois Irene Proulx rest in eternal peace and may perpetual light shine upon her. Lois was loved by her family and friends. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
Lois' family will celebrate her life with a funeral service on Tuesday July 22, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception with interment in Calvary Cemetery in Crookston. Visitation will be held on Monday July 21, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with prayer service at 7:00 pm.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Northland Catholic Community Foundation - Lois Proulx memorial in Crookston, MN, or to the Sacred Heart Foundation - Paul and Lois Proulx Scholarship in East Grand Forks, MN.
