Lois Etta (Cowan) Stinson passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022 at the age of 91 in Lubbock, Tx.
Lois was born the daughter of Harry L. and Lyle (Headley) Cowan on June 8, 1931 on a farm near Longford, KS. The family moved often as she was growing up because of her dad's job on the railroad. They finally settled in Newton, KS during her high school years and she graduated from Newton High School in 1949.
Lois met and married Bill Stinson on November 4, 1952 and they settled in Wellington, KS and were married 40 years, until his death in 1992. To this union they had four children; Teri, Debbie, David, and Brian.
Lois went to work at the Sumner County Register of Deeds office as a clerk, around 1969, she then became the Register of Deeds in 1984. She loved working there and had great knowledge of every detail of what it took to run that office. It was much more than just a stamp and a signature. Lois finally decided on retirement in 1995.
After retirement, she met her companion Willis (Jerry) Pitts. Together, they enjoyed many years
of Thursday night dances, dinners with friends, Music Theater in Wichita, and travel. With a
cigarette in one hand and coffee in the other she could take on the day. Lois had a black belt in
shopping, was a master at games and playing slots, and was happiest with a puppy snuggled in
her lap. She enjoyed serving her community through Wellington Little League Football, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Madison PTA, and was a member of the board of the Panhandle Credit Union.
Survivors include her children: Teri Stinson of Lubbock, TX; Debbie Moseley of Lubbock, TX;
David Stinson (Deborah) of San Antonio, TX; and Brian Stinson (Denise) of Wellsville, KS; her
nine grandchildren: Jennifer Beamer of Colorado Springs, CO; Sarah Purdon (Nigel) of Lubbock,
TX; Vanessa Dirks (Philip) of Lubbock, Tx; Chris Stinson of Wichita, KS; Pam Coleman (Stephen
Fernandez) of San Antonio, Tx; Karen (Kenny) Marshal of San Antonio, Tx; Ryan Ricke (Chelsea) of Wellington, KS; LaDonna Frye (Anthony) of Colwich, KS; Tyler Rayl (Catherine) of Hurst, TX; and her eleven great grandchildren: Ian Purdon of Lubbock, TX; Derek Purdon of Lubbock, TX; Halle Purdon of Littlefield, TX; Bailey Purdon of El Paso, TX; Rebekah Cantu(Anakin) of Lubbock, TX; Anders Fernandez of San Antonio, TX; Maple Marshal of San Antonio,TX; Hunter Ricke and Zoe Ricke of Wellington, KS; Adalynn Frye and Kyler Frye of Colwich, KS; and her great-great grandson Kellen Purdon of Littlefield, TX. She also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins who love her dearly. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lyle Cowan, her husband Bill, her companion Jerry, and her son-in-law, Randy Moseley.
Dementia is a cruel disease, but we will remember who she was before this and how she lived
her life, she did it her way.
A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022 with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
