"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die."— John 11:25
On September 9, 2025, Lois Arthene Sundquist went home to be with the Lord, embraced by eternal love and peace. While we grieve, we also rejoice—knowing that she is no longer bound by the struggles of this world, but now walks in glory with Christ.
Born in Gunnison, CO, Lois lived a life full of faith, kindness, and joy. She found beauty in simple moments, strength in prayer, and purpose in serving others. To family and friends, Lois was a steady light, reminding us all of God’s goodness.
"Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord."— Matthew 25:23
Lois is survived by her loving and devoted husband, W Blair Sundquist of 66 years; four children, Bert Sundquist of Franklinton, LA, Dwayne Sundquist (Linda) of Slidell, LA, Kimberlee Gelbke (Paul) of Madisonville, LA, and Scot Sundquist (Cara) of Kenner, LA; and eight cherished grandchildren, Stephen Sundquist (Missy), Elena Sundquist, Jessica Sundquist (Jay), Brandon Sundquist, Rachel Faughn (Dylan), William Sundquist, Lily Sundquist, and Autumn Sundquist, who will forever carry her legacy of love and faith. She is also remembered with love by her sister, Verna Gleason and her brother, Arthur Leonard. Lois was welcomed in heaven by her father, Clarence Leonard, mother, Esther Verheul Leonard and brother, Robert Leonard.
Though her earthly journey has ended, we take comfort in God’s promise that death is not the end, but the doorway to everlasting life.
Lois’ passions were as varied as they were meaningful. A steadfast believer, she faithfully served through Stephen Ministry, offering a listening ear and a prayerful heart for more than 20 years. She also delighted in painting, a pursuit that allowed her to express beauty, peace, and the wonder of God’s creation.
A celebration of Lois’ life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Covington Presbyterian Church, 222 S Jefferson Ave, Covington, LA 70433, where together we will lift our voices in gratitude for the time we were blessed to share. In memory of Lois’ love for flowers, we would be honored if you would join us in wearing floral prints. Visitation will be 1pm-2pm, service at 2pm, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. To honor Lois’ life of faith and service, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Covington Presbyterian Church.
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."— Revelation 21:4
Even in our sorrow, we hold fast to hope: Lois has entered into the fullness of joy, and one day we will be reunited in God’s eternal kingdom.
