Lois McQueen Walker, age 98 of Shady Valley, passed away on Monday morning, June 24, 2024 at her home. Lois was born on June 16, 1926 in Shady Valley, TN to the late Willis McQueen and Hattie Blevins McQueen. In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Walker, daughter, Mabel Jackson, sons, Doug Walker and David Walker, sisters, Walsa Eller, Cleo Callahan and Okle Greer, brothers, Raleigh McQueen and Reford McQueen.
Lois worked as a cook at the Shady Valley School in earlier years and then at Blue Ridge Shoe Company in Mountain City. She was a homemaker and farmer all her life, cooking, gardening and could grow anything, loved to quilt and was mamaw to many.
Lois attended Harmon Chapel Christian Church and Shady Valley Presbyterian Church throughout the years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters; Frances Booher and husband Harry, Helen Forrester and husband Jim, Donna Roark and husband Dude; daughter-in-law, Luzi Walker; son-in-law, Jimmy Jackson; grandchildren, Jimmy Walker and wife Allison, Kevin Forrester and wife Meghan, Anita Doss and husband Ernie, Brandi Peters and husband Ross; great-grandchildren, Reanna Peters, Grayson Peters, Ethan Boone Forrester, Savannah Cox and husband Conner, Julianne Rhymer and husband Brandon, Allen Doss, Brandon Doss and wife Megan; one great-great-grandchild, Harper Amelia Cox, several nieces and nephews, special friends and neighbors, Gary and Sandra Matheson .
The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Phil Blevins officiating, special music by Nikki Gentry. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral service at McQueen Cemetery in Shady Valley, TN. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Walker, Kevin Forrester, Ernie Doss, Brandon Doss, Brandon Rhymer, Ross Peters, Grayson Peters, Ethan Forrester, Connor Cox and Allen Doss. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Walsh, Jack Blevins, Larry Gentry and Charlie Jones.
Flowers are appreciated or memorial donations may be made to the Shady Valley Fire Department, c/o Conley Gentry, 340 Walker Road, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
At other times, friends and family may visit the home, 533 Winchester Road, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
