Lon Galli Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Conway Chapel on Dec. 14, 2025.
Mr. Lon Charles Galli, age 76, came to the end of a long and joyful journey on Saturday, December 13, 2025. It was a journey that encompassed the joys, disappointments, rewards, and heartaches of a full rich life, sustained by faith and family.

Mr. Galli's journey began in Manitowoc, WI on September 4, 1949 having been born to the late Ferdinand A. Galli and the late Pearl J. Wagner Galli. He graduated from Manitowoc High School in 1967 and furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin on a full academic and baseball scholarship. He was drafted his senior year of college by the Minnesota Twins baseball team and played at Wisconsin Rapids and then for the Charlotte Twins. While playing for the Twins, during the All-Star break, Lon met the love of his life, Sandy Johnson, at their apartment complex. At the time, Lon didn't have a television and asked Sandy if he might watch hers while she was out with friends. What began with a simple request quickly became something more. Just 6 weeks later, they were married on August 30, 1972. Together they forged a living and raised a family. In 1979 they welcomed their daughter, Dana Ryan, into the family, their only daughter and the second love of his life.

Lon was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. After moving to Conway in 1972 he began working for his father-in-law, Mr. J. K. Johnson, building houses and after that began working for the Horry County Code Enforcement Department from which he retired in August 2016.

Mr. Galli loved sports and played softball in Conway, Aynor, and Myrtle Beach leagues. He also played in ASA and USSSA softball leagues on weekends. He loved bowling and had many 300 games over the years. In later years he traveled cross country several times in their motorhome with Sandy, Dana, and his devoted canine companion, Esso Gomez. He lived his life with dignity, faith, quiet determination and measured pride.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sandy J. Galli; his daughter, Dana R. Galli; his sister, Gina M. Srenaski and husband Steve of Madison, WI; his brother-in-law, J. K. Johnson, Jr. and wife Sherri; his sisters-in-law, Linda J. Goodyear and husband Wayne, Ginny J. Rabon, Betty J. Allen and husband Larry, and Chummy J. Richardson and husband Ted; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Rocky Taylor, will be held at 3:30PM Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 4008 Salem Road, Aynor, SC 29511.

My condolences to the Galli family. I graduated from High School with Lon, and we became friends through our college years. I lost track of him when I moved out of Manitowoc, but have always thought I would like to see him again. Seems strange to say about someone I haven't seen in over 50 years, but I'm going to miss him. John Danielson
