Lonnie Thomas Evans, born on April 12, 1951, in Statesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, in the same town that cradled him throughout his life. At the time of his passing, he was 74 years old.
Lonnie's journey began in the heart of Statesville, where he attended Morningside High School. He was a devoted member of Cameron Presbyterian Church in Elmwood, where his faith and community spirit were nurtured.
In his early years, Lonnie dedicated himself to serving the City of Statesville, where he worked diligently for many years. His career path later led him to J.C. Penney, where he spent 17 years as a valued employee, known for his kindness and consideration toward all who crossed his path.
Lonnie's life was enriched by the cherished friendships he formed at the Plaza apartments. He was a beloved chauffeur to his neighbors, always willing to lend a helping hand by driving them to appointments and running errands. His generosity and good-hearted nature endeared him to many.
A man who loved to travel, Lonnie embraced life's adventures with joy and enthusiasm. His warm smile and happy demeanor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will truly be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Scott and Maggie Bratton Evans. He leaves behind several siblings and other family members who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Services to honor Lonnie's life will be announced at a later date. As we remember Lonnie, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering kindness.
