Lonnie Thomas Mathis, Jr., 73, of 9 C Street, Inman, SC, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum. 

Lonnie was born in Sumter, SC on October 13, 1950, a son of the late Constance Harriett (Skinner) and Lonnie Thomas Mathis, Sr. He was the husband of Mary Carol (Fitzgerald) Mathis and was first married to the late Verona Jean Mullinax Mathis.

He was employed as senior vice president at Summit Engineering Group in Spartanburg, SC. Lonnie was a member of Inman Mills Baptist Church where he was a choir member. He was also a member of the South Carolina Water Association.

In addition to his wife, Lonnie is survived by four daughters, Lisa Martin (Jerry), of Montana; Lauren McCarter, of Pacolet, SC; Jill Farley (Tim), of Columbia, SC; Kathleen Himmelheber (Mick), of Campobello, SC; a son, Devin Jonas, of Greenville, SC; a sister, Ellen Campbell, of Coalmont, TN., a brother, Wayne Mathis (Debbie), of Sumter, SC; 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, Ryan, Alex, Logan, Scarlett, Conner and Alyssa and 4 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 19th at Inman Mills Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Inman, SC

A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 19th, in the church sanctuary, with Rev. Jack Hames officiating. Private burial for the family will be in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens in Wellford, SC. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Inman Mills Baptist Church, 22 B Street, Inman, SC 29349 or Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC  28607.
