A visitation for James “Jim” V. Mathis, Jr., 74, will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana.
Jim was born on July 7, 1949 in Kilgore, Texas to James V. Mathis, Sr. and Ora Jo Mathis and passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 in Shreveport.
After retiring from LSU-S as Director of Purchasing, Jim loved working on projects in the yard and around the house. He loved helping people in the neighborhood. He always had that special tool or missing part that was needed. He loved making people laugh in his own unique way. He loved playing and collecting card games and board games. But he truly loved his friends, his family, his wife, Brenda, and his five cats.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, his wife, Brenda; his brother, Tim Mathis and wife, Maggie; sisters, Mindy Dean and husband, Bobby, and Melody Ivy and husband, David; nephews, Stephen, Stewart, Andrew and Phillip.
The family would like to express special thanks to Tim and Maggie for their invaluable help with all of Jim’s medical needs and to our friend, Cippy, for his help with all of Jim’s special projects.
The family would also like to thank the doctors and staff of The Family Doctors and Advanced Cardiovascular Specialists for the care and compassion given to Jim during his illness.
