Lonnie L. Peterson, 75 of Joy, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Genesis Medical Center, Aledo. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be in Peniel Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Aledo American Legion. Visitation is Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Honor Marker Program.
Lonnie Lee was born on June 9, 1948, in Moline, Illinois to Clifford & Margaret (Spivey) Peterson. He joined the military right after high school, serving in Viet Nam, receiving 2 purple hearts. Lonnie and Patsy Munson were married on December 20, 1969, in Joy, Illinois.
Lonnie retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation, Mercer County. He enjoyed adventure! He loved go-carts, motorcycles, racing cars in the field and anything that was exciting and fun. Lonnie loved to be outdoors, either camping, canoeing or target shooting. He also loved gardening and mowing the lawn. He and Pat enjoyed going to car and tractor shows and just taking rides to no where.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Patsy; children and spouses: Davy & Tomoe Peterson of Aledo; Jennifer & Jed Dahl of Joy; Chad & Angie Peterson of Keithsburg; daughter-in-law, Laura & John Mack of Reynolds; siblings: Nan & Greg Toohey of Aledo; Patricia “Kay” Ward of Texas and sister-in-law, Mary Peterson of Aledo; Grandchildren: Stephanie & Kyle Pitman; Shaun Peterson & Chonya Davis; Alexa Peterson; Jordan & Chaz Mulherin; Taylor Peterson & Chance Teel; Olivia Dahl & Kemper Carle; Eliah Dahl; Brittany Brislawn; Benjamin & Jessica Peterson; Mikayla Fullerton & Kole Gilmore; Jessica Fullerton & Kolton Stropes; William Peterson & Jazmynn Woodsmall and Gavin Fullerton; Great-Grandchildren: Jaylen, Jordan, Harlan, Emilia, Redleigh, Lincoln, Kennedy, Artemis, Keenan, Lennox, Kolton, Lillian, Aria, Karter, Kaston, Kameron and one lovingly expected. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Shawn Peterson and brothers, Tom and Theodore Peterson
