Loraine M. Cestone, of Waverly Township, PA, and Bal Harbour, FL, passed away on August 29th, 2025 at Elan Skilled Nursing in Scranton, PA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Michael J. Cestone, Jr.
Born and raised in
Dunmore, PA, Loraine was the daughter of Samuel Mastriani and Caroline Seckary Mastriani. She graduated from Marywood Seminary and Marywood College, and later taught Italian and business courses at Dunmore High School. She met her husband Michael, of Montclair, NJ, when he visited the Country Club of Scranton to play in the Member-Guest Tournament with her uncle, Sylvia DeFazio. They married in 1959 and settled in Clarks Green, where Loraine devoted herself to raising their three children.
She is survived by her daughters, Caroline Salvino and Mary, wife of Dr. David FitzPatrick; her son, Michael G. Cestone, and his wife, Nanci; and her cherished grandchildren, Sam Salvino, Christine, Tommy, and Meghan FitzPatrick, and Gianna, Michael, and Frank Cestone. Among the many close relationships in her life, one of the most treasured was with her cousin, Elaine Mazzoni, who was like a sister to her. Loraine was deeply involved in the family businesses, Mastriani Construction and Mastriani Realty, and she generously gave her time volunteering at her children's schools and with the Sant'Andrea Society.
She and Mike were among the founding families of the Church of Saint Gregory, where they expressed their deep Catholic faith and enjoyed many meaningful trips to Italy with Monsignor Louis.
Loraine loved to travel and took several memorable European trips with close friends, always returning with unique Christmas gifts for her family. She was also a gracious hostess, known for the many wonderful parties and gatherings she hosted in her home. She especially treasured winters spent in Bal Harbour, where visits from her children and grandchildren brought her great joy.
A longtime member of the women's golf league at the Country Club of Scranton, Loraine enjoyed playing with both old and new friends. She continued those friendships well into her 90s, attending monthly lunches that were a highlight of her social life. Known as "Gigi" to her grandchildren, Loraine was always the most fashionable one in the room. She delighted in sharing her impeccable style, and her daughters and granddaughters continue to wear many of her favorite pieces with pride and affection.
In her later years, Loraine spent three enjoyable years at Elan Gardens Assisted Living in Clarks Green, where she loved the activities and made many new friends. She spent her final year and a half at Elan Skilled Nursing, where she received excellent care. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at both facilities, as well as to Compassionate Care and Hospice, for their extraordinary care and support.
Loraine will be remembered for her elegance, humor, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Her presence brought light to every room, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
The funeral will be Monday, September 8, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green. Interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9 A.M. until Mass time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509, or
