Loren Wayne Hunt returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on October 14, 2025, in Taylor, Arizona, at the age of 73.
Loren was born January 27, 1952 to Horald Ralph Hunt and Georgia May Ramsay Hunt, in Phoenix Arizona. He was the youngest and joined his two brothers, Ralph and Ivan. The family lived on a farm and ranch in Litchfield Park, Arizona. He had a happy childhood and started riding horses when he was only nine months old. Ralph and Georgia moved to Taylor, Arizona in 1967 to start farming on the Hunt homestead. Loren remained in Litchfield Park for two more years, and graduated from high school in 1970.
Loren lettered all four years in football and was the captain of the football team his junior and senior year. Loren was also a talented musician. He played the piano, trumpet and guitar. As a teenager, he was in a band with his cousin, Johnny Kay, called Judge Widge Wudge, where he played electric guitar. He was very involved in FFA and was Chapter President in 1970 and State President in 1971. He learned many skills in that organization that benefited him the rest of his life.
He received a scholarship to play football at Glendale Community College. While attending college, he was drafted into the United States Army, in August of 1972. He qualified to go in to the Airborne Division and had hopes of becoming a helicopter pilot. However, he was injured badly and had to have facial reconstruction surgery, which left him hospitalized for weeks. While in the Army he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was always a passionate patriot and loved his country very deeply.
During the time Loren was recovering from his injuries, his parents were involved in a terrible car accident, which left both unable to take care of the farm and ranch. Because of this, he was given a hardship discharge so he could return home to take care of the farm and his parents while they recovered from their injuries.
Loren farmed and ranched with his parents for many years where they established H. Ralph Hunt and Son Farm and Ranch. The Hunts were famous for their Kandy Korn (sweet corn) and people would come from all over the state to buy it. They also grew alfalfa and raised cattle.
Loren met Yvonne Freeman in the summer of 1974 and she convinced him to give up his bachelor card on August 28, 1976. They were sealed in the Mesa Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints on April 27, 1985. They were married for 49 wonderful years and were blessed with five children, Wesley Kay Hunt, Michelle Hunt, Lori Jean Heinlein (Matt), Dustin Wayne Hunt (Rebecca), and Staci Marie Hunt. Loren had 13 grandchildren and 4 ½ great grandchildren (new one coming April 2026).
Loren got his kids into racing go carts when they were young. This led to him eventually building his own stock car Camaro that he raced for several years at Thunder Raceway. His number was #71. Dustin also built a race car and it became a family tradition to spend Saturday evenings at the race track. Racing friends quickly became family and Loren acquired two new "brothers", Kent Nelson and John James.
Loren was President of Navajo County Farm Bureau for several years and served on several committees at the state and national levels. This gave him the opportunity to travel to many places around the United States. He was also a graduate of Project CENTRL.
Loren was a very loving father and grandfather, and made time to attend sporting events, dance recitals, and any other event that involved his family. He was known for always showing up. He was a constant in their lives and loved supporting them in everything they were involved in. He lived for his family, God, and his country.
Loren had the kindest heart and was a friend to anyone he met. He loved to talk to people. He was so giving and would do anything he could to help someone. He also loved to feed people and made sure nobody left his home hungry.
Loren was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he held many callings throughout the years, including ward clerk, librarian, and activities committee chairman. He was also involved in the scouting program and loved working with the young men.
Loren is survived by his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his brothers, Ralph Horald Hunt and Ivan Ray Hunt (Billie), brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Marilyn Freeman, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Arthur J. and Janice Kay Freeman, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at the Silver Creek Stake Center, located at 309 W.
