Shuck, Loren Shorty
Loren Shorty Shuck passed away peacefully at his home in Lancaster, California on February 15, 2023.
Loren, son of the late Ira J and Judith (Jamtgaard) Shuck was born August 26, 1935 in Alcester, SD. He graduated from Alcester High School in 1953. Loren moved to Lancaster California in 1956. He started working for Denny Refrigeration in 1961 as a book keeper. He was taught HVAC while working there. In 1979. Shorty started teaching at AV College in the tech education department. He retired from AVC in 1999 and was later awarded professor emeritus in 2013.
Loren was known by many only as Shorty, a nick name given to him in his youth. He accomplished a lot in his life, 50-year member of RSES which included education and examination chairman from 1999 to 2005, honorary life member in 2006 and man of the year in 2009, while remaining on the E & E board until 2019.
Shorty was awarded gold (50 year) volunteer achievement with the AV Fair in 2015 and Grand Marshall of 2019 fair parade.
Shorty is survived by his sister Marla (Shuck) McFetridge, his son Michael (Connie), stepson James Bonner (Susan), stepdaughter Joanna Gaudi (Doug), various grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Judith, stepmother Mable, wife Maxine and son David.
Services will be held March 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at the AV Fairgrounds, Van Dam Pavilion.
