Reta was born on May 27, 1929, east of Briscoe, Texas. She was the eighth of ten children born to Lawrence and Virginia (Wood) Aderholt. Reta started school at Briscoe and attended through the seventh grade. Her family then moved to the Allison community where she graduated in the spring of 1948. On March 10, 1950, Reta married Louis Wayne Grayson in Allison. They made their home on the Grayson farm south of Allison until 1952 when Louis was asked to run the Allison Mercantile. During this time, they had their first child, Deborah Lynn. The following year, they moved to Canadian where Louis worked as a field man for the Hemphill County ASCS. That same year, they moved to Farwell, Texas, where Louis continued training for the ASCS. By then, they had a son, Terry Wayne. Louis was transferred to Panhandle, Texas, as the Carson County ASCS office manager. While living in Panhandle for ten years, they completed their family with the birth of their last child, Johnny Lee. In March 1964, the family moved to Wheeler where Louis was once again the office manager of the Wheeler County ASCS until his retirement. However, in January 1965, they moved to Allison and made their home. Reta was a wife, mother, homemaker, and grandmother. From a very young age, during the Depression, she worked alongside her father and siblings in the fields. One of her wishes was to be known as a hard worker and truthful lady. As a grandmother, she was a pillar of strength and testament to faithfulness caring for those she held dear. She loved reading, quilting, and crossword puzzles. She very much enjoyed doing yard work and gardening. Her home, her lawn, and her garden were always immaculate. Reta was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Borger where she loved to attend until her health prevented it. In the spring of 2012, Reta moved to Wheeler where she enjoyed living. She later moved into Parkview Assisted Living in the spring 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Virginia Aderholt, brothers Gerald (Ting) Aderholt and Ray Aderholt, six sisters Doris Hays, Avis Allen, Lois (Bob) Johnston, LaVois (Moose) Anderson, Estelle Topper, and Jonell Grayson, a son-in-law George Markham, and a grandson-in-law Jesse Wales. Also preceding her, her husband Louis, her son Terry and her daughter Debbie.
She is survived by her son Johnny & wife Mary of Wheeler, son-in-law Tim Jones of Pampa, ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Grandchildren include Bryan & Tess Markham of Wheeler, Monty & Janna Markham of Reydon, Oklahoma, Jerome & Sarah Grayson of Glenrock, Wyoming, Keri & Brandon Dukes of Wheeler, Kristy & Clint Taylor of Sayre, Oklahoma, Hayley & Billy Bashaw of Elk City, Oklahoma, Hattie Wales of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Joni Grayson of Spoken Valley, Washington, and Isaiah and Journey Holt of Coalgate, Oklahoma. She is also survived by one remaining sibling Armenda (Noonie) Jones of Amarillo, Texas, and a very large extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
