Loreto "Larry" Tempesta, of Waltham, formerly of Newton, passed away Tuesday May 13, 2025 at the age of 75. Beloved son of the late Costanzo and Filomena Tempesta, he is survived by his siblings Bill Tempesta, and his wife Judy of Sharon and Marianne Lochiatto of Newton as well as many nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his brother Robert J. Tempesta, his wife Nancy and brother-in-law Anthony Lochiatto.
A fan of all sports, Larry was a standout baseball player throughout his youth. He was a member of the 1962 Newton Little League team that against all odds progressed to the final game that would have sent them of the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Newton North High School class of 1967, Larry attended Newton Junior College where he continued to excel in baseball and was scouted by the Kansas City Royals. His love of the game remained throughout his life as he cheered on his beloved Dodgers.
Larry was a longtime City of Newton foreman, working in the Public Works, Water and Sewer Department. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and coworkers.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 11AM in the Burke & Blackington Funeral Home, West Newton. Visitation will be held immediately prior to the service from 10-11AM. Family and friends are welcomed to attend. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donation's in Larry's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
