Loretta Gilbo Obituary

Norwich - Loretta L. (Laudone) Gilbo, 84, a longtime Norwich resident, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022, at her home.

Born in Westerly, R.I., Jan. 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Margaret (Turano) Laudone.

Loretta grew up in Norwich and was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at area car dealerships until retiring in 2002.

As a woman of strong faith, she was a parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Norwich. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and also volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen in Norwich.

She had a variety of interests, including cooking, baking and knitting but what she especially enjoyed was spending time with her friends playing Majong. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son Duane R. Gilbo Jr. (Erin); her brother James H. Laudone; grandchildren, Melissa Bresnan-Gilbo and Michael Riley Jr.; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Rosemarie Gilbo Riley.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 181 Elizabeth Street, Norwich. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many volunteers, especially Nurse Diana, who provided the loving care needed for her to remain in her home.

Donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen, 120 Cliff St. Norwich, CT 06360.

Duane and family. Sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom Loretta. I was a neighbor for many years and even rented the upstairs apartment from her. I remember her as a very good cook and she was always pleasant when I would run into her at Shop Rite. Our condolences. Harry and Roger Caprilozzi, Norwich, CT.

Mere words just can not possibly express the feeling I want to convey I am both happy and sad. I am happy for Loretta for she is now with her angle - her beloved daughter, Rosemarie ,and experiencing the joy of heaven with all her earlier family. The sadness comes in not having Loretta with us. It must have been extremely difficult for all to let her go. She was a very special person. Your family must be very proud . She touched so many people. She was kind - most generous - thoughtful and always doing for others and anticipating their needs. I was always in awe of the exquisite afgans she would knit for her family , friends , and church auctions - many of the afgans were her own made up patterns. I enjoyed her scrumptious baked goods and her authentic Italian specialties. She always made sure to send me home with some for Jack. I also want you to know Loretta was a clever and shrewd Mah Jongg player. I feel very blessed to have shared her friendship. Closing with loving thoughts and healing prayers to enfold and comfort you.
Always , Gail and Jack
