Loretta Heard Obituary

Visit the New Comer Cremations & Funerals - Westside Location website to view the full obituary.
Loretta L. Heard was born July 1, 1960, in Rochester, New York to the late Thelma and Lessie Heard and was affectionately known as "Peewee".
Loretta attended James Madison High School and graduated in 1977 as a Music Major. That is when her love for music and poetry began. She was so into music she had all the neighborhood kids in a group grooming them to sing in somebody's church. She wrote the music, played the organ and "tried" to sing. Peewee was determined. Another passion of Peewee's was decorating. You can give her your vision and she would make it come to life. Just do not give her your credit card! She had such expensive taste.
Loretta continued her education at Suny College of Brockport in Music Education until she was offered a job opportunity at Eastman Kodak. Loretta worked as a Lab Technician for 22 years until she was able to take the early buy out.
After leaving Kodak, Loretta again pursued another passion in cooking. She attended Le Cordon Bleu Institute and earned a Culinary Degree, which led her to her final place of employment at University of Rochester, being the House Mother (Cook) for two Fraternities. Not only did she enjoy going to work doing what she loved to do, she also had the opportunity to meet some of the most intelligent young men that treated her with love and respect. She spoke of "her boys" often.
Peewee was preceded in death by her parents Lessie and Thelma Heard, a sister, Cathy Rayam and a special friend George "Lee" Horne. Peewee's
memories will forever be kept by her only child Courtney Heard, her "fur baby" Solomon Heard, three siblings, Thaddeus (Penny) Griffin, Janice (Roni) Heard and Wanda (Leroy) Heard all of Rochester, NY, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
Family and friends are invited to her calling hours from 10 am -11 am Friday March 22, 2024 at her church,God's Vision Ministries, 694 Hudson Ave, Rochester, NY 14621 corner of Bernard St. Her divine liturgy will begin at 11 am promptly. Interment Oakwood Cemetery Penfield, NY.

Peewee was truly a special woman and true sister friend to my mother Hazel. Peewee loved to laugh and enjoy good food. She was an amazing mother, chef, friend etc. My nickname is Mandy and she loved my 14 month baby who she nicknamed her baby boo. She gave me so much motherly wisdom and advice over the years. Peewee was my godmother/auntie and I was welcomed into the family through a divine connection with Mother Heard. Mother Heard loved and adopted my biological mother Hazel. I am going to miss sitting in her backyard and enjoying her flowers/green thumb. Loretta stayed the night at my house a while back and made one of the best potato salad ever with ranch dressing. Hazel and I know she has gone to sleep in the Lord and is with her parents in eternity. I have so many text messages and memories to hold onto. No more pain, no more suffering, no more tears. This old world is behind her. This place is not her home nor the home of those who are in Heaven. Servant well done!
You will be missed.
