Loretta Jacobs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Jan. 31, 2026.
Loretta Jean Jacobs, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home on 01/30/2026.

Known to everyone as "Jean," she was born on May 2, 1943, in Oklahoma City to Harold D. Craig and Loretta Bessie Craig. The oldest of eight children, Jean grew up with a strong sense of independence and responsibility that stayed with her throughout her life.

Jean attended U.S. Grant high school in Oklahoma City from 1959-1961, and after high school, she did many jobs, but eventually developed a strong background in bookkeeping.

On January 16, 1972, Jean married the love of her life, Randy Jacobs, in Oklahoma City. As an Air Force wife, she spent the next 30 years traveling the world and living in various locations, including Fort Worth, Texas; Charleston, South Carolina; Mildenhall, England; Alexandria, Louisiana; and Las Vegas, Nevada. Jean managed the household while her and her son Brad often spent time exploring and sightseeing while Randy was serving his country.

Jean was always capable, self-sufficient, and strong-willed. She was famously remembered as the toughest officer on "KP"duty at the base in England and later took great pride in having turned the Nellis Air Force Base Ticket and Tourism office into a million-dollar revenue generator.

In 2008, Jean returned to Oklahoma to care for her brother, which allowed her to reconnect with many family members and longtime friends.

Jean had many personal interests and joys. She loved dogs, babies, dining out, Elvis Presley, but especially loved reading. She maintained an extensive personal library and was rarely without a book close at hand.

She also had a wonderful sense of humor-always ready to pull a prank, smile, laugh, ask questions, and share her opinion.

Jean was also generous. If she knew you were struggling, or had anunexpected expense, sometimes some money might find it's way to you as her way of saying "Don't worry about it." That was Jean.

She shall be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, cousin, aunt, caretaker and friend to many.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents , four brothers: Floyd Craig, Leroy Craig, Dennis Craig, and Jerry Craig.

She is survived by her loving husband, Randy Jacobs; her son, Brad Ecton of Orlando, Florida; her brother, Harold Craig of Norman; her sister Joyce Passmore and her husband Elgin of Oklahoma City; her sister Glenda Buchanan of Oklahoma City; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

If you would like, you can make a donation in Jean's name to the ASPCA.

It was an honor having known you only briefly after reconnecting with Randy from our Air Force days in the Philippines. Your love for each other was evident. Looking forward to a grand reunion with us all one day. May you rest in peace, Jean.
