Loretta Krantz Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 17, 2025.
Loretta Jane Krantz, 99, "went to her reward" as she would tell it, on August 15, 2025 in Coon Rapids, MN. Loretta was born on March 8, 1926, in Forest Lake, MN, the fourth of eight daughters born to Daniel and Agnes (Bessette) Hopkins. She remained close to her sisters throughout her life, joining them for picnics, camping, square dancing and traveling. Loretta attended the University of Minnesota where she studied Home Economics and was crowned Daughter of Paul Bunyan 1947. She met Fred Krantz at a Newman Club dance and married him on December 27, 1947. They then moved to Columbus, Ohio, and Camden, New Jersey, before returning to Minneapolis, MN, to raise their family of seven children. Fred and Loretta celebrated 53 years of marriage before Fred passed away. Loretta will be remembered for her passion for sewing and crochet hobbies, which she enjoyed well into her 90s. She made Christmas dresses and scrubbies each year, as well as wedding and bridesmaid dresses and many other projects. She loved to cook, bake and can fruits. Her children and grandchildren could always count on homemade cookies and treats when visiting, often leaving with goodie bags. Loretta also enjoyed decorating: buying furniture, then arranging and rearranging it. Loretta was steadfast in her Catholic faith, growing and sharing it with her family. Loretta is lovingly remembered and missed by her children Betts (Gerry) Siwy (Elgin, IL), Kathy Colligan (Coon Rapids), Fred Krantz (Minneapolis), Chris (Peter) Mayou (Hayward, WI), Bernie (Joanne) Krantz (Woodsboro, MD) and Jeanne Morales (Richard Skroch)(Minneapolis); son-in-law Jeff Odendahl (Maplewood); 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Taurman, Audrey Pohl and Maxine Michaud; and many nieces and nephews. Loretta was preceded in death by her husband Fred Krantz (July 23, 2001), daughter Mary Krantz (July 6, 2009) and son-in-law LeRoy Colligan (April 25, 2022). A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Church of the Epiphany, Coon Rapids, MN, on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 10:30 am with visitation 1 hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Sharing and Caring Hands, Second Harvest Food Shelf and Haiti Partnership c/o First United Church of Little Falls.
