Loretta Roux Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Loretta Eleanor Wilson Roux, who left us peacefully at the age of 88 on May 10, 2024, at Kanas Center, Westhampton Beach, NY. Her departure followed a two-month struggle with illness and ultimately heart failure.

Born on April 20, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, to George and Gertrude Wilson, Loretta later moved to Hicksville and then Manorville, NY. She was a proud graduate of Hicksville High School and Adelphi University, where she earned a degree in Physical Education.

Loretta dedicated over 35 years to teaching physical education in the East Williston School District, touching the lives of countless students at The Wheatley School and Northside Elementary School. As a coach, she led her field hockey team to the New York State Championship in 1981 and was honored by her induction into the Wheatley School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982.

Known for her love of playing cards and slots, trips to the casino and her fierce competitive spirit, Loretta's true legacy lies in her unwavering kindness, compassion, and generosity. She was a beacon of support and strength for her friends and family, always treating her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She extended her extraordinary kindness and generosity to all of her family and friends.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A long-time loyal parishioner of St. Ignatius Church in Hicksville and later at Sts Peter & Paul's Church in Manorville, her strong faith guided her actions and brought comfort to those around her.

Loretta leaves behind her beloved husband of 52 years, Roland Roux of Patchogue, NY; her daughter, Nancy Schillizzi (Michael, deceased); granddaughters, Laura and Anna, of Manorville, NY; sisters, Barbara Barnes of Westchester, PA, and Janet Moeller Faltermayer (Stephen) of Bellmore, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews across Long Island, Maine, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Texas.

A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 18th at Sts Peter & Paul RC Church, Manorville, NY, with a visitation gathering at 11:15 AM at the church. Following cremation, Loretta's legacy will continue to inspire.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association, or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. These contributions will help carry forward her legacy of care and commitment to the well-being of others.

Loretta’s life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and dedication. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
