Loretta died peacefully in the arms of Jesus with her family by her side on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in Dallas. She was born in Dallas, TX on May 1, 1938, to parents Hugh Eugene and Hazel Inez Adkins Jones. Loretta lived in Mesquite when she was young, where she attended Mesquite schools. After leaving high school she attended Draughons Business College in Dallas.
In 1968, she met and married Billy Ray Sims of Edgewood where they made their home and raised two sons. After moving to Edgewood, she attended the National Beauty College in Mesquite. She was a hairdresser for 13 years and then in 1984, went to work for the Edgewood School System as the elementary secretary and retired in 2006. Loretta was a member of the First Baptist Church of Edgewood. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing and after retiring they enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Her family has always been a very important part of her life and she enjoyed spending time with them.
Mrs. Sims is survived by her husband Billy Sims of 55 years; She is also survived by two sons, Alan Eugene Thompson and wife Laura of Elberton, GA, and Ricky Glenn Thompson of Guatemala; two sisters, Annette Hays of Point, TX, and Linda Johnson and husband Allen of Rockwall, TX.
Loretta has four grandchildren, Mike Thompson and Rose of Mabank, TX, Chance Thompson and Elizabeth of Payne Springs, TX, Kayla Davis and Robbie of Marshall, TX, and Kasey Thompson of Tyler, TX. She has nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Hazel Jones; a nephew, Blake Johnson; a niece, Stacy Browning; and a brother-in-law, Melvin Hays.
Funeral services for Loretta Gene (Jones) Sims, 85, are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Edgewood. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, January 5, 2024, at Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.
