Lori Sue Godfrey

Lori Sue Godfrey, age 61, of Middleboro, formerly of East Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Racine, Wisconsin, Lori was the loving daughter of the late James Robert and Inez (Anderson) Demers. She was raised in Brockton and East Bridgewater and was a proud graduate of Brockton High School.

Lori met John Godfrey while working at Shaw's Supermarket, and the two married on August 12, 1998. Together, they raised their son, Johnny, in Middleboro. Lori devoted more than 30 years to her work at Shaw's, where she wore many hats and developed lasting friendships. She retired as a manager, respected for her work ethic, kindness, and loyalty.

Outside of work, Lori had many passions that brought her great joy. She was a proud and longtime member of the Carver Women's Softball League and played for the hilariously competitive Darkside Softball Team. She found peace in her yard-gardening and doing yard work were among her greatest passions. It brought her immense happiness and pride to tend to her plants and watch her garden flourish. She also enjoyed baking, listening to easy rock, and spending time with her sisters. Lori especially loved birdwatching, greeting her favorite cardinals each day from her window. Independent, strong, and full of dry humor, Lori truly lived life on her own terms.

Lori was the loving mother of Katilynne E. Dumas and her fiancé Jared Kemp of Connecticut, and John C. Godfrey II of Middleboro. She was also the devoted mother of the late Tanya M. Dumas and the late James C. Dumas. She was the proud "Grammie" of Tyler Dumas.

She is survived by her sisters: Terri Dineen of New Bedford; Julie Allen and her husband Ricky of Kentucky; Kelly J. DeVincent of Haverhill; Kathy M. Miller and her husband Steven of Middleboro; Joy Marie Lydon and her husband Nick of New Hampshire; and Melody Lauzon and her wife Kathleen Bantley of Dudley. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

The last two years of Lori's life were marked by incredible strength and grace. Though the treatments were difficult, she faced them with determination and hope. She is now at peace, free from pain, and remembered with deep love.

Family and friends are cordially invited to Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, on Monday, October 27. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
