Lori Karen Scoggin, a longtime resident of Morganton, born on February 5, 1979 in Spartanburg South Carolina, passed unexpectedly on Monday, September 15, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and a quiet strength that touched the lives of many.
Karen dedicated nearly 20 years of her life working for Republic Services, where she was known for her commitment and diligence. Her education was a point of pride; she received a Paralegal Degree from South College and an Associate's Degree from Haywood Community College, showcasing her determination to pursue her goals.
A cherished member of her community, Karen was actively involved in her faith. She attended Victory Church for several years and cherished her time at Bethel Baptist Church in Canton during her younger years, where she was baptized. Her love for The Lord Jesus Christ was deeply ingrained in her heart, and it guided her throughout her life.
Karen's personality was sweet and quiet, endearing her to many. She was a devoted fan of the Duke Blue Devils and the South Carolina Gamecocks, and she found joy in simple pleasures such as reading books, enjoying coffee, and spending time at the beach.
She is survived by her loving parents, Selwyn Dwight Scoggin and Alice "Debbie" Cantrell Scoggin. She leaves two sisters: Gina Sutton and her husband Travis, and Brette Marie Scoggin; along with a beloved niece, Pharris Sutton, and nephews: Korbin Jackson and Kamdyn Francis. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends who were touched by her gentle spirit.
Karen’s life will be honored with services held at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville. Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery in Waynesville beginning at 11:00 AM.
As friends and family gather to celebrate her life, they will remember Karen not only for her accomplishments but for the kindness and love she shared with those around her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
