Lorraine Andreozzi

Lorraine (Duguay) Andreozzi, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away on September 9, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 66. Lorraine held the hands of her beloved daughter and sister as she passed. 

Lorraine was the daughter of Richard and Yvonne Duguay and grew up in Providence, Rhode Island. A part of a large family, she was a sister to three siblings, Richard, Denise, and James. Though we are devastated that Lorraine has left us so soon, we are comforted that she will be welcomed by her parents and brothers, Richard and James, who passed before her.  

Lorraine is survived by her adored daughter, Michelle, and her son-in-law, Jordan. As much as Lorraine loved being a mother, she loved her role as “Memere” to her three grandchildren, Cole, Connor, and Grayson, even more. Lorraine is also survived by her sister, Denise, and brother-in-law Kevin; sister-in-law Linda; nieces Kristen (and husband Brad), Elisa, and Alexis; and two great-nephews, Lucas and Miles. In addition, Lorraine came from a large extended family including grandparents and many wonderful aunts, uncles, and over 30 cousins. Lorraine was also very blessed to have several long-standing friendships, and she will be deeply missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Lorraine had a huge heart, and there was no surprise that her chosen profession was nursing. Lorraine graduated from Rhode Island College’s nursing school in 1978 and went on to work at Kent County Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island. Lorraine was a wonderful mentor to other nurses – she even had the opportunity to be a preceptor to and work alongside her mother Yvonne after Yvonne graduated from nursing school in 1981. Lorraine went on to earn her Master’s in Nursing in 1996. After moving to Florida in 1997, she spent many years working at Martin Memorial Hospital South and was known as “LA” to her colleagues and friends. She held many different roles over the course of her career, including a nurse, a charge nurse, a nursing director, an adjunct nursing clinical instructor at a local college, and eventually, involvement in a special technology project to help build Martin’s online records system. For the last few years of her career, she harnessed her newly learned technology skills and traveled throughout the country to help hospitals build their online systems.

Fortunately, one of those hospital projects landed her at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois at exactly the right time: her daughter, Michelle, lived in Chicago and was due with Lorraine’s first grandson, Cole, just a few weeks after the start of Lorraine’s project assignment. From that point on, Lorraine ensured that (despite the fact that she loved the Florida sunshine and despised Chicago’s notoriously cold winters) she spent at least half of the year living with her daughter and the grandchildren who were her entire world. 

Despite having been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in recent years, Lorraine was very active and never stopped moving. She enjoyed gardening and spent many hours in both Michelle’s garden and her own. She also loved sharing plants from her garden with others and served as a board member for the Friends of the Savannas non-profit organization. Lorraine loved watching the birds at her bird feeder and had a special affinity for Northern Cardinals. She was also a talented artist, teaching ceramics classes in earlier years and painting dinosaur canvases for her grandson’s nursery in later years. She had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of St. Lucie Catholic Church. She was selfless and so positive, always greeting family and dear friends with “Hi, my love!” “Hi, my sister!” and ”Hi, my bud!” Lorraine will be very deeply missed but never forgotten. 

We will hold services for family and friends in both Port Saint Lucie, Florida, and Providence, Rhode Island. 

In Florida, services will be held on November 13, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm at Haisley Tribute Center, 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd., Port St. Lucie, Florida.

In Rhode Island, services will be held on November 17, 2023 from 4 to 6 pm at Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, Rhode Island.
