Lorraine E. Moody

Lorraine Evelyn Moody (nee Vreeland), formerly of Pompton Plains, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 27, 2025, at the age of 91.

Born in Butler, New Jersey to Clarence and Evelyn Vreeland, Lorraine was one of 7 children. After graduating Butler High School in 1951, Lorraine was employed at Curtis Wright Corporation in Caldwell and later at the Lincoln Park Intermediate Care Center in the business office for over 25 years.

In 1952 Lorraine married the love of her life, who happened to be her next-door neighbor, John Moody, after John returned from his service in the Navy during WWII. They lived in Pompton Plains initially before moving to Riverdale where they raised their 3 children until retiring back to their home in Pompton Plains.

Lorraine’s priority was her family, as well as assuring that her children received a college education. Lorraine was very active and served in numerous senior groups in the area and enjoyed attending luncheons, shows and community events. She was a long-time member of the Pompton Reformed Church in Pompton Lakes.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Deborah Wubbenhorst and her husband Andrew of Kinnelon; her son John Moody and his wife Karen of Los Gatos, California; and her son Scott Moody and his wife, Billijo of Kinnelon; as well as her 3 grandsons, Kurt Wubbenhorst and his wife Megan of Kinnelon, Brock Moody of New Hampshire and Eric Moody of Kinnelon; and her 2 great-granddaughters, Zoey and Violet. She is further survived by her sister Donna Schreyer of Pennsylvania and sister-in-law Carole Vreeland of Butler.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband John in 2018 and her sisters, Clarice Rose, Janice Schmucker, Arlene Gormley, Marilyn DeStaffen, and her brother, Ward Vreeland.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, New Jersey.
