Johnny Lee Prescott was born October 8, 1946 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Elmeree and Johnny Prescott. He peacefully completed his earthly journey on August 1, 2025, at his home in Bloomfield, NJ.
After receiving his early education, Johnny attended Butler High School in Hartsville, South Carolina. During his time at Butler, Johnny proudly competed as a student-athlete for the Tigers' baseball team. As a senior, the talented southpaw was the starting pitcher for Butler's first undefeated state championship team. After graduating in 1965, Johnny made his way to Washington, D.C. for a short time before finally settling in
Paterson, NJ.
In 1966, he began a long and dedicated career at Fisher Scientific in Fair Lawn, N.J. During his 47 year tenure, he was a proud and active member of USW Local 4-417, before he retired in 2013.
That same year proved life changing when he met the love of his life, Shirley Elizabeth Goodman. They were married at St. Luke Baptist Church, in Paterson, on June 27, 1970 by the Reverend Dr. Albert M. Tyler. In November 1971, they welcomed the first of their two sons, Johnny Lamont III and in April 1974, Shelton Jermaine was born. Johnny and Shirley were happily married for 46 years before her untimely death in 2016.
In his leisure time, Johnny enjoyed playing, watching and even coaching sports. He was a fan of the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers and a HUGE fan of the Washington Redskins (Commanders). He also loved to watch the Little League World Series. Above all, Johnny's greatest passion was his family. He was a loving, devoted and supportive husband, father and grandfather. Affectionately known to his children and grandchildren as "Pop". Known to his very large, extended family as "Wet", "Uncle Wet" and "Uncle Johnny", he truly loved his family. His favorite event of every summer was attending his family reunion where his warmth and presence was felt by all.
Beyond his family, Johnny was also a loyal friend, helpful neighbor and dependable co-worker. In 1998, he became a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Paterson, where he served faithfully until The Lord called him home.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Elmeree and Johnny Prescott, his wife, Shirley Elizabeth Prescott, his sisters, Vivian Belton, Mildred Frazier, MaeVerne Robinson, Gloria Waddell, his brothers, Roosevelt Davis, James Davis, Herbert Davis, Blaney Prescott.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons, John III of Fair Lawn, NJ, Shelton (LaVosha) of East Orange, NJ. His grandchildren, Johnny Myles Prescott- O'neal IV of Port St. Lucie, FL and Olivia Marie

His sisters, Edna Dubose of Jacksonville, FL, Sylvia Blair (Carl) of Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth Robinson of Charlotte, NC, Edith Funderburk of Charlotte, NC, Betty Verene (Bobby) of Landover, MD, Catherine Johnson of Hartsville, SC, Veronica Howard (Lester) of Wilson, NC, Carolyn Robinson of Bakersfield, CA. His brothers, Lindbergh Davis of
Paterson, NJ, Ronnie Prescott (Jackie) of Lorton, VA and Michael Prescott (Jackie) of Washington, DC. His aunts, Thelma Hill (Eddie), Dorothy Larry (James) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Johnny's life was a testament to faith, family and kindness. A legacy that will live on in the hearts o all who knew and loved him.
