The Lord granted His loving daughter, Lorraine Mary Van Vreede, age 100, her wish. She passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, July 5, 2023 at Living Tree Estates, Greenville, WI. She was born in Black Creek on March 3, 1923 to Harold and Helen (Nytes) Verbeten and was the oldest of ten children. She graduated from Wrightstown High School in 1941. Shortly after, Lorraine met Harvey Van Vreede; they married on April 13, 1943. Harvey preceded Lorraine in death on September 29, 2005, after 62 years of marriage. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute and American Legion Auxiliary.
Lorraine redefined what it meant to be a "homemaker" elevating the chore of house cleaning to new levels. She and Harvey shared a cottage with Lorraine's sister Lois and her husband "Donny" on Boundary Lake near Mountain and together she and Lois further perfected this to a fine art. In addition to being a great mother, Lorraine followed her husband into the TV and appliance business helping to found Van Vreede TV & Appliance out of their home in Kimberly. She did accounts payable as well as other clerical work as the business thrived.
Along with spending time at the cottage, Lorraine was also an avid golfer and bowler. She played in a bridge league for 32 years and also loved playing sheephead where she would collect pennies and nickels off her fellow residents at the Heritage. She and Harvey spent many years "snow birding" in Lake Havasu, Arizona. She was an avid traveler visiting Europe and much of the United States.
Lorraine is survived by her three children: Roger (Lynn) Van Vreede, Appleton; Sandra (Jim) McMonagle, Greenville and Richard (Rhonda) Van Vreede, Appleton; grandchildren: Mark (Angela), Ryan and Scott (Farrin) Hammer, Adam (Maddie) and Dustin (Bryanna) Van Vreede, Andrea (Tom) Bailey; great grandchildren: Brennen Hammer, Davis and Tenley Van Vreede, Zachary, Ethan, Ellie, Clare, Sarah and Aaron Bailey; Sisters Marion (Deede) Helein and Carol DeBruin and brother-in-law Jack De Goey. Lorraine was looking forward to another baby grand-daughter expected to arrive in late July. She is further survived by many special nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband Harvey, Lorraine was preceded in death by brothers Earl (Betty), Robert (Doris), Ralph (Evie) and Marlin Verbeten: sisters Blanche (Gerald) Pynenberg, Florence De Goey and Lois (Donny) Gonnering as well as brother- and sister-in laws: Georgiana (Sis) (Bill) Weyers, Aloyius (Elaine) Van Vreede, Floyd (Catherine) Van Vreede, Vic (Helen) Van Vreede, Carl (Margaret) Van Vreede and Clyde (Lefty) Helein and Ronald DeBruin.
The Funeral Service for Lorraine will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 5:00 PM, at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (411 Vandenbroek St. Little Chute). Family and friends may call at the church from 3:00 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Lorraine's name.
