Lorraine Vargo was born in
South Bend, Indiana on May 22, 1931 to the late Stanley and Josephine (Wroblewski) Kromkowski. Lorraine graduated from St. Mary's Academy in
South Bend, Indiana. She then attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in South Bend. She married Emery G. Vargo on October 21, 1950 at St. Hedwig Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Emery (August 3, 1998), three brothers, Robert Kromkowski ( As an infant), Richard Kromkowski and Jerome Kromkowski, sister, Joan E. Dahms, one sister-in-law, Rosemarie Kromkowski, and one brother-in-law, Ronald Dahms and one step granddaughter, Courtney Rae Fate. She is survived by five loving children, Frank Vargo of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Michael Vargo of
South Bend, Indiana, Peggy (Jim) Markle of Pendleton, Indiana, Sandra (Bill) McCarthy of
South Bend, Indiana, and Laura Vargo- Laudeman (Kevin Hayes) of
South Bend, Indiana, twenty grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Remble, Jeremy (Christina) Remble, Jami Markle Hadley, JD (Natalie) Markle, Justin Markle, Ashleigh (Matthew) Prezbindowski, Landon (Caitlin) Vargo, Theresa (Nate Harris) Vargo, Garin Vargo, Kaley (Scott) Szucs, Sydney (Jairo) Ezell, Bridgette (Matt) Burbrink, Zach (Melissa) Fate, Tyler (Kayley) Vargo, Alexis Vargo, Jackson Laudeman, Jordan Vargo, Samuel Laudeman, Griffin Laudeman and Holden Laudeman, twenty three great grandchildren, Lukas Prezbindowski, River(Hannah) Remble, Brody Remble, Schuyler Remble, Leighton Prezbindowski, Madeline Burbrink, Emerson Markle, Ihla Nogalski, Lochlan Prezbindowski, Brayden Burbrink, Briella Burbrink, Hudson Markle, Sadie Remble, Mckenzye Markle, Elijah Szucs, Vinnie Burbrink, Evelyn Vargo, Camryn Markle Hadley, Lincoln Vargo, Cole Szucs, Sutton Vargo, Courtney Rae Vargo and Hazel Vargo.
Mrs. Vargo retired from Stanley Enterprises in 1993 after thirty years of service. She also retired from M.R. Falcons Nest#4 after ten years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Rosary Society of Holy Cross Church and The Golden Clusters of St. Hedwig since 1998. She was a dedicated Democratic Precinct Committee member for over thirty years. The last time she worked at the polls was November 6, 2018. She was also a member of M.R. Falconettes and the 6th District Legion of Honor Gold Star. Lorraine was the recipient of the Legion of Honor Gold Star which is the highest honor awarded by the Falcons. She was also the first recipient of the Falcon/Falconette of the year award by nest #4 in 1975 and Nest#200 in 1976. Lorraine was also a member the Polonaise Club, Forever Learning at Little Flower Catholic Church, and a Eucharistic Minister at Memorial Hospital from 1998 until December of 2018 when my kids took my driver's license away. A visitation for Lorraine will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in Holy Cross Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church or The Raclin House in Lorraine's honor. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at The Raclin House for the care they provided.
