Lorraine Vascik, a beacon of kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 94 in Willowbrook, Illinois. Born on October 11, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, Lorraine's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her family, friends, and community. Her gentle spirit and generous nature left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Lorraine's journey through life was shared with her cherished partner of 45 years, the late Gerald Tampier. Lorraine was devoted to her daughters Gail (Stan) Nykiel, Jean (Bruce) Williams, and Nancy (Paul) Kalahiki. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, nurturing her children with love, wisdom, and grace.
As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Lorraine's legacy continued to flourish. She was the proud grandmother of Cliff (Mary Jane) Nykiel, Kurt Nykiel, Darren (Jessica) Williams, Ryan Williams (Tracy Polgar), Jovan (Jeremy) Close, Janine Kalahiki, and Uriah Kalahiki (Emma Zbiral-Teller). Her great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Kekoa, Maya, Kailani, and Franco, brought her immense joy and pride. Lorraine was also a beloved step-mother to Paula (Tom) Flaig, Christopher Tampier, and Jerry Tampier, step-grandmother to Amanda (Mike) Accurso and Vanessa (Mark) Matenaer, and step-great grandmother to Andrew, Emma, William, Wesley, and Blakely. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
A devout Catholic, Lorraine lived her faith through her actions, embodying the love and compassion at the core of her beliefs. She was a pillar of strength and support, often putting the needs of others above her own. Her ability to keep the family united earned her the affectionate title of "the glue" that held everyone together.
Lorraine's interests and activities were as varied as they were fulfilling. She was an avid traveler, exploring new places and cultures with a sense of wonder and adventure. Golf was another of her passions, providing her with both a challenge and a source of relaxation. Lorraine was an active member of the community, participating in groups such as the Active Seniors and the TNT (Ten Nifty Teens Club), a testament to her lifelong friendships with her high school girlfriends.
Known for her people-oriented nature, Lorraine never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit were the cornerstones of her character, traits that defined her as much as they inspired others.
Lorraine's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, kindness, and selflessness. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her warmth and generosity. In honor of Lorraine's remarkable life, a visitation will be held from 8:30 am – 10:00 am on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien. Prayers will begin at the funeral home at 10:00 am followed by a procession to Our Lady of Peace Church for a 10:30 am Mass. A procession to Clarendon Hills Cemetery will immediately follow Mass.
