Lory Claire Antoine Rummel, loving mother, went to be with her Lord on December 7, 2025,
at the age of 96 years old. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James H.
Rummel, Jr. She is survived by her loving son, Daniel "Danny" Rummel. Lory was the
daughter of the late Emily Estevan Antoine and the late Felix Antoine. She was also
preceded in death by her sister Lucille Lombard, brother Leon "Wicky" Antoine, sister Leah
Kennedy, and brother Loys "Red' Antoine. She will be missed by her many nieces and
nephews, and their children.
She was born on September 30, 1929, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She studied
bookkeeping and typing at Rabouin High school before leaving at the age of 16 to take a job
at Kirschman's Furniture Store on Dauphine Street in the 9th Ward. Later, when Danny was
there, she worked in the bookstore at Holy Cross High School from 1975-1977. During that
time, she wrote multi-stanza poems that she read to the entire school taunting the
opposing football teams, each Friday of the season. After her son graduated, she worked
the Rummel High School bookstore from 1978-1988.
She married her one true love, James, on August 6, 1949, and resided in New Orleans. She
lost James to a violent crime after 14 years of marriage, but was determined to raise her
only child by herself with only family to help. She retired from bookstore duty and moved
from the family home to the Gatehouse Apartments in 1989, until the Katrina event in 2005.
She then made her way to the Metairie Manor apartments, where she resided until
Christmas last year. This past year she was looked after by the caring staff at St. Anthony's
in Metairie.
Lory was a faithful Catholic, loving and caring daughter to her parents as they aged, and a
caring and dutiful mother in support of her only son. She always had a beautiful smile, and
a sharp wit.
Visitation will be Monday December 22, 2025 at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home from 10 Am until 11 AM.
a mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel at 11 AM with entombment to follow in St. Louis #3 Cemetery.
