Portsmouth – Lou Ellen Lowe Hemmings, 75, passed away July 24, 2025 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Franklin and reared in Sebrell, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Conway Lowe and Pauline Texie Gray Lowe and was also predeceased by an infant sister, Patricia Ann Lowe.
Lou Ellen was a 1968 graduate of Southampton High School and was a retired purchasing agent for the US Navy at Little Creek. She was a member of the Wives Club and volunteered at the schools helping children to learn to read. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, singing in many church base choirs, and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Theresa Ann Farley (Greg) of Virgina Beach, Delana Michele Doyle (Charlie) of Smithfield, Patricia Anne Childress (Todd) of Marathon, FL, and Texie Leigh Malota (Jeff) of Portsmouth; a sister, Cecilia Lowe Darden (Clayton) of Franklin; and seven grandchildren, Kenneth Bess, Cal Bess, Sarah Wilcoxson (Nich), Sadie Malota, Carley Childress, Max Childress, and Sam Malota.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM Saturday, August 23, 2025 in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with Mr. Donnie Ray Raiford officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Hortonwreathsociety.org.
