Lou H. Abernathy Phillips, age 74, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
Born on December 13, 1950, in East Tennessee. Throughout her life, Lou was known for her deep devotion to caring for others. She found great joy in maintaining a warm and welcoming home and took pride in her love of cleaning and nurturing those around her. Her marriage to Ronnie Phillips was a source of profound happiness; their bond remained strong until his death in 2018.
Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ronnie Phillips; her mother-in-law Helen Phillips; father and mother: Hugh Gilbert and Ruth Abernathy, two sisters Ann and Elaine Abernathy, and two half-brothers Gibb and Pete Abernathy. Her memory lives on through the family members who cherished her: sister-in-law and husband Barbara and Dale Miller; nephew Brian Miller; niece and husband Mary and Gary Scruggs; great-nieces and their husbands Sandi and Tyler Renner, Nikki and Aaron Sutherland, Lisel Soronen; and great-nephews Zach Scruggs and fiance Haili Murray, Josh Dean, and Gary Ethan Scruggs.
A graveside service to honor Lou's life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bethesda Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 16340 Kingsport Hwy, Fall Branch, Tennessee 37656. The service will be a small gathering of family members who loved her dearly.
