Louie C. Rakes, Jr. (L.C.) of MacArthur, WV received his reward on July 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family as he met Jesus, his Lord and savior face to face.
Born January 10, 1946 at his home in MacArthur, WV, he was the son of the late Louie C. Rakes and Violet L. Taylor Rakes of MacArthur, WV.
Louie was a member of Grace Primitive Baptist Church in Shady Spring, WV where he served as an Elder and minister.
He retired after 29 years with the Pittston Coal Company and was a proud member of the UMWA and served as the president of the local union.
He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and talking about the goodness of the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Brenda G. Killian Rakes, his second wife, Janet Lane Rakes; three brothers, Dempsey Rakes, Tommy Rakes, Bobby Rakes; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Elizabeth Killian; brother-in-law, Hershel Perdue; sisters-in-law, Joann Bowman and Sharon Killian; nieces, Penny Wright and Debra Ara and nephew, Ronnie Suttles.
Louie is survived by three sons, Johnny Rakes (Rhonda) of Beckley, WV, Donny Rakes of MacArthur, WV, Michael Rakes (Kim) of MacArthur, WV; grandchildren, Derrick Rakes (Whitney) of Kitty Hawk, NC, John Rakes (Amanda) of Beckley, WV, Josh Rakes of Beckley, WV, Kaytlin Rakes (Shanice) of Oak Hill, WV and Noah Rakes of MacArthur, WV; four great grandchildren, Isabella Edwards, Cheyenne Rakes, Haley Rakes and Fallyn Rakes, and one great grandchild on the way; two sisters, Scarlet Perdue of MacArthur, WV and Vicki Harvey (Carl) of Cool Ridge, WV; three sisters-in-law, Linda Rakes of Beaver, WV, Pam Rakes of Shady Spring, WV, Betty Suttles of Asheville, NC and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024 at Family Worship Center, 224 Pinewood Dr., Beckley, WV officiated by Pastor Luke Hodges. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 12 – 2 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers.
