It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis Stephen Assaid, better known

as Steve. He left us peacefully after a brave and inspiring battle with health challenges that

included surviving three heart transplants.

Born and raised in Virginia Beach to loving parents, Della and Elizabeth (Libby) Assaid,

Steve spent most of his life in Great Bridge. He was a life-long fan of the Yankees, cheering

passionately for his team through every season. Steve also dedicated his life to working

with the Gideons to distribute Bibles and spread God's love to countless individuals. He

believed in the power of community and the importance of giving back.

Steve is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Assaid and Steve Assaid Jr;

grandchildren, Emma and Evan Assaid (Jeff); brothers, Joe Assaid and Gary (Karen) Assaid;

Nieces, Ashley Henley, Carly Hathaway, and Madison Numi; wife, Kathy Assaid; stepchildren,

Jason Woolard, Brooke Barnes, Lauren Woolard, and Mark Barnes and their

respective children, Brayden Woolard (Jason), Luke and Logan Barnes (Brooke).

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1 p.m. at

Laurel Avenue Church of Christ, 1126 Laurel Ave, Chesapeake, VA, 23325. In lieu of

flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Donate Life Virginia to honor those who

gave to allow Steve a chance at life.
