Louis A. DePas, 85, of Kingsford, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Evergreen Assisted Living in Kingsford.
He was born July 1, 1939 in Niagara, WI, son of the late Arthur and Florine (Warren) DePas. Louie graduated from Niagara High School in 1957 and went to work for the Michigan-Wisconsin Power Company. He was employed there for over 35 years, eventually retiring from WE Energies as a system protection technician in 1994. Louie married Kathleen Bath on October 24, 1987 at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. He was an EMT with the Niagara Area Rescue Squad and taught First Aid and CPR classes for many years. Louie was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford where he served in many capacities including being an Elder, a Deacon, teaching Sunday School, helping with the soup kitchen and involvement with prayer and Bible study groups. He and Kathy loved traveling in their motorhome and were able to visit all of the lower 48 states. Louie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting. He also taught Hunters Safety and was an avid gun collector. Most of all, Louie loved spending time with family and attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Kathleen "Kathy" DePas; a daughter, Kelly Rumpf; sons, Greg and Jeff (Teresa); a stepson, Jason (Kendra) Bath; stepdaughters, Kelly (Don) Mulholand and Kristin (Kevin) Jones; a sister, Dorothy Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Ceil DePas, Sharon Safranek and Penny (Delore) Holmberg; 13 grandchildren, Desmond (Ashley) DePas, Sarah (Kevin) Beilman, Dominique DePas, Calvin DePas, Landin (Nora) DePas, Madisin DePas, Ben Rumpf, Jacob and Sydney Mulholand, Olivia and Carter Bath, and Gracie and Rylie Jones; as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Collin and Carter DePas.
In addition to his parents, Louie was also preceded in death by first wife, Arlene (Erickson) DePas; a son, Doug DePas; a brother, LeRoy DePas; sisters, Virginia (Ernest) Peterson, Joan (Frank) Sherman, and Nancy (Howard) Skogman; three grandchildren, Cody DePas, Austin DePas, and Eastin DePas; and brother-in-law Don Zimmerman.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 am at the church. Rev. Bob Malsack will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
Special thanks to Evergreen Assisted Living for their wonderful care over the last couple months as well as U.P. Health and Hospice for their wonderful care his last week of life.
