Robert C. Furno, 85, of Iron Mountain, passed away at his home on Monday, September 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born October 6, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Charles and Theresa "Tracy" (Pastore) Furno. Bob graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1957 and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Michigan State University in 1961. He married Mary E. Stanosheck on August 8, 1964, in Omaha, Nebraska. Bob began his career as a CPA at Price Waterhouse in Detroit before joining Champion Inc. in Iron Mountain in 1974, where he retired as Chief Financial Officer in 1991. He then ran his own accounting and consulting business for several years helping numerous businesses and individuals in the Upper Peninsula and taught accounting at Bay College. A devoted member of Saint Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford where he was an altar server, he was also an active member of the Rotary Club, the Michigan CPA Association, and served on the Iron Mountain School Board. An avid Michigan State basketball fan, Bob loved March Madness and was instrumental in the organization of an annual bus trip to East Lansing for games, including cheering on the team with fans in the Izzone and visits with coach Tom Izzo. He was a Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings fan, played in a bocce league at City Park, enjoyed gardening, and made choke cherry wine, carrying on his father Charlie's tradition. Above all, he cherished time with family and friends. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary; son, John Furno of Iron Mountain; daughter, Julie (Ken) Zawacki of Mount Arlington, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica) Stockmal, Alexander Stockmal and Grace Stockmal; one great-grandchild, Levi, with two more on the way; and sister-in-law, Ann (Lee) Galles of Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, James Stanosheck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, September 22, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and entire health care staff that helped Dad enjoy his golden years to the fullest extent possible. In lieu of flowers, donations to any local, national, or international charity on Bob's behalf are welcomed. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Robert C. Furno online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com. The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
