Michael Furno Obituary

Published by Legacy from Sep. 19 to Sep. 29, 2025.
Michael Francis Furno, 70, Douglas/North Haverhill, NH, passed away peacefully at Grafton County Nursing home on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with dementia.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy Clark; his children, Michelle and her husband Jeff Spadea, Valerie Lund and her fiancé Tucker Sweet, Karen Cornell, Thomas Lund, and Tonya and Madeline Gadwah; his godson, Colby Martin; and his goddaughters, Jennifer Gosselin and Katelyn Kibbe. Mike was blessed with 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brothers, David and his wife Patti, and John and his wife Christine, both of Douglas, and his sisters, Tina and her husband Tim Egan of Douglas, and Tammy and her husband Christopher Murray of Uxbridge.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Lucille (Chaput) Furno, as well as his siblings, Carl, Robin, Cindy, and Joseph ("Barney").

Born in Northbridge, MA, on September 1, 1955, Mike grew up in Douglas and attended the Douglas school system before continuing his education at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School in Upton. He began his career as a mechanic before owning a service station and later worked as a car salesman, long-haul truck driver- visiting 48 of the 50 states - a restaurant owner (Mr. Mike's Pizza), and an oil and gas technician.

Among his many endeavors, his greatest joy came from helping family and friends build racecars and compete at local tracks, starting at Thompson Speedway and eventually at Bear Ridge Speedway in Vermont.

After moving to New Hampshire in 1992, Mike began what would become his lifelong commitment to Bear Ridge Speedway. From working in the pizza trailer to serving as flagman and later announcing in Victory Lane, Mike's dedication and enthusiasm left a lasting mark on the racing community. In recognition of his many contributions, he was inducted into the Bear Ridge Speedway Hall of Fame in 2023.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Douglas Center Cemetery, Main Street, Douglas, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Douglas Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 523, Douglas, MA 01516, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.

Ernie and I always enjoyed socializing with Mike at Bear Ridge Speedway. May he rest in peace and watch over his friends at the speedway. My deepest sympathy to Mike's family and friends.
