Louis Distefano, 80. It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for his life that we announce the passing of our beloved "Louie", who peacefully left this world on June 2, 2025 at Westmont Woods Skilled Nursing Home. Born on October 13, 1944 in Johnstown to the late Joseph and Marion (Mattiello) Distefano. Louie is preceded in death by his sister, Marie Holck and his brother-in-law, Donald Taylor. Survived by his siblings: James of Delaware, Lucille Taylor of Johnstown, Thomas (Tina) of Delaware, and Bob (Amy) of Johnstown; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Louie's life, though marked by disability, was full of meaning, joy, and the unwavering love of family. Throughout his life, he was surrounded by care, patience, and enduring affection, none more powerful than that of his sister, Lucille, who stood by his side for over eighty years.
He was a truly special soul whose smile could light up any room and whose joy for life was contagious. He was a gift to all who had the honor of knowing him. He had a passion for Westerns and police shows, and he was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. But nothing lit up his world quite like the music of Elvis Presley - his love for "The King" was unmatched. He also took pride in being a medal-winning bowler in the Special Olympics.
Louie lived life to the fullest. He traveled all across the country, visiting places like Graceland, Walt Disney World, Hollywood, and Hawaii- each trip was an adventure he cherished and shared with those around him. But no place was more special to him than the shores of Rehoboth Beach - or as Louie fondly called it, "Rehoba" - where he made unforgettable memories with his family.
For over 60 summers, Louie was a proud camper at Camp PARC. There, he built lifelong friendships and was embraced by a circle of counselors and fellow campers whom he loved. The impact Camp PARC had on Louie's life is beyond words. We will be forever grateful to the camp and its dedicated staff for the care, kindness, and memories they gave him year after year.
Louie worked and "retired" with great pride at the Cambria County Association for the Blind and Handicapped, and received ongoing support and encouragement from Skills of Central PA. His caregivers at Cambria Residential Services gave him excellent care, and in return, Louie gave them - and all of us - his unwavering love and light.
Louie didn't just live. He lived fully. With laughter, music, friendship, and love. He taught us all what it means to be joyful, to be kind, and to embrace each moment. His legacy is etched in the hearts of every person lucky enough to have known him.
He was a friend to all. He was family to many. And he will be deeply, profoundly missed. We are heartbroken that he is gone - but forever thankful that we had Louie in our lives.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Cambria Residential Services for the outstanding care and compassion they have shown to Louie throughout the years. Their patience, dedication, and kindness have made an incredible difference in Louie's life-and in ours. We would also like to thank the staff at Westmont Woods Skilled Nursing for their care during Louie's final months.
Friends will be received Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at Frank Duca Funeral Home, EAST HILLS CHAPEL & Crematory, 404 Walters Avenue, Johnstown, 15904.
A funeral service will follow at 12:30 pm, at the funeral home with Father George Gulash. Private Interment at St. Anthony Cemetery, Geistown.

I remember Louie from DuPont St in the early 70's. My sister lived 2 doors down and I babysat a lot!! I'll always remember how much he loved the kids and especially the fire trucks! May his sweet soul rest in peace.
