Louis L. Geiger Jr.

Louis Leonard Geiger, Jr., was born May 19th, 1949, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, to Louis Leonard Geiger, Sr., and Mary Lou Frank Geiger.  Louie passed away on March 9th, 2024, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jeffrey Geiger, and brother Mark Geiger.  Louie grew up at his parent’s home on Camby Road, Camby, IN.  He was a member of Fairfield Friends Meeting.  Louie met his future wife, Dinah Lookabill, when her family moved their membership to Fairfield Friends in 1965.  Louie graduated from Plainfield High School in 1968 and joined the Navy.  He was stationed in California from 1968-1972 but spent most of his time at sea.  Both of his ships were aircraft carriers, and his main job was fueling helicopters.  He was on the USS Princeton when they picked up the astronauts from Apollo 10, after splashdown in the Pacific Ocean on May 26th, 1969.  When the Princeton was decommissioned, he spent the rest of his duty on the USS Tripoli.  This included several tours of duty off the coast of Vietnam.  While home on leave nearing the end of his Navy service, he married Dinah at Fairfield Friends Meeting on August 15th,1971 in the old white meetinghouse.  After the Navy, Louie graduated from Ivy Tech with a degree in Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration.  Louie and Dinah were both active in their meeting (church), where they served as Youth Group Leaders for several years, during which time they served as Explorer Scout Leaders.  Louie also served on the Ministry and Council Committee.  Louie and Dinah lived on Six Points Road in a family home where they raised their children, Chris Geiger (Rebecca) and Hillary Mazur (Mike).  In the 1980’s, Louie spent eight years serving in the Indiana National Guard.  Louie enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, and football (especially the Indianapolis Colts).  He enjoyed watching westerns, sports, and animal shows.  He was an “expert” when it came to animals and could identify most any animal and tell you all about their habitat, etc.  He ended his HVAC career in 2010 at Harlan Bakery in Avon, IN.    In 2016 he and Dinah moved to a small lake community in Owen County to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  He loved visiting with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.  He would inquire about them almost daily.  His best times on the lake were sitting on the deck of their home and watching the waterfowl and other animals.  In addition to his wife and children, he leaves behind 8 grandchildren - BrieAnna Geiger, Lexi Bradley (Brett), Phillip Mazur (Samantha), Emma Mazur ( Jesse Wilcoxson), Abbigayle Hinshaw, Eli Hinshaw, Quaid Hinshaw, and Reanna Hinshaw; 8 great grandchildren -  Addy Bradley, Jayven Bradley, Colter Speedy, Wayne Patton, Rhett Wilcoxson, Amelia Mazur, Charlotte Mazur, and Helena Guest; a sister, Connie Geiger; 3 aunts; and several nieces and nephews.  Calling will be Friday, March 15th, 2024, at Fairfield Friends Meeting,10441 E CR 700 S.
