The Rosary/Vigil Service will be on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 7:30 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth.
Louis was born to Frank and Katherine (Litsch) Huseman on October 29, 1931, in their home in Nazareth, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Nazareth. Louis graduated from Nazareth High School in 1949. He married Virginia 'Gin' Burt, also from Nazareth, on January 12, 1954. They were devoted to one another for 60 years before her death on the same date August 7, in 2014.
Louis was an active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Nazareth School Board, on the Holy Family Parish Council, and as a board member of the Running Water Southwest Conservation District. Louis was also active in the National Farmers Organization and participated in the farmers' strike movement, enjoying those adventures in the late 70s.
Louis was an avid farmer and rancher. One of his passions was raising quarter horses. He loved his work and often said he never felt a need to retire, as he enjoyed what he was doing.
Louis enjoyed taking his family on Sunday lake trips for swimming, skiing, and fishing. He was always ready for a large family get-together. He was proud of his large family and always happy to welcome a new grandchild or great-grandchild. He loved laying in the grass at dusk to "light the stars" with his children and grandchildren.
Louis enjoyed hunting and taking his family and friends along. Every summer, his garden was his pride and joy, and he always had plenty to share with anybody he saw. He loved dancing and continued going dancing in his 90s. Louis was a voracious reader and read daily, preferring Stephen King, the Classics, and historical novels. It was important to him to keep up with current events around the world, and he enjoyed discussing them. He always appreciated good jokes and liked telling them. In many ways, he was quietly a very generous man.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Gin, his parents, his brothers Urban, Alvin 'Buddy', Julian, Robert, Dennis, and Albert, his sisters Sister Generose, Florence Meeks, Corine Dulsky, and Lucille Moon, a son, Matthew Huseman, a daughter, Lori Huseman, a son-in-law Stephen Wilhelm, and 2 grandsons, Andrew Ramos and Aaron Teafatiller.
Louis is survived by his brother Alphonse, his children, Becky Ramos and Jesse, Bonnie Huseman, Jenny Teafatiller and Kerry, Paul Huseman and Edith, David Huseman and Dorothy, Greg Huseman and Sherita, Mary Jean Wilhelm, Bart Huseman and Colleen, Mike Huseman and Shelly, a son-in-law Allen Freeman, 34 grandchildren; Adam Ramos, Israel Ramos, Zachary Ramos, Nicholas Ramos, Monica Ramos Maney, Jared Huseman, Christopher Freeman, Sarah Freeman West, Annie Freeman Devlin, Tanner Teafatiller, Kendra Huseman, Carl Huseman, Alexis Huseman Smith, Anna Huseman Salmon, Adrienne Huseman Bechtel, Wesley Huseman, Joshua Huseman, Jayton Hale, Kaytlin Huseman Krutsch, Joseph Huseman, Samuel Huseman, Isaac Huseman, Matthew Wilhelm, Megan Wilhelm, Amy Wilhelm Brown, Jonathan Wilhelm, Ashlin Huseman Kulhanek, Kristin Huseman, Ryan Huseman, Shane Huseman, Tristen Huseman, Dawn Huseman Ross, Collin Huseman and Ethan Huseman, and 44 great grandchildren.
He often said, "Check the oil and tires before you go," and "Don't do anything I wouldn't do". We never got clarification on what he wouldn't do, though. He will be missed.
As Louis would have said, "It's okay if you don't make it to my funeral, I won't make it to yours."
Memorials may be made to Holy Family Cemetery, 210 St. Joseph, Nazareth, Texas 79063.
