Louis Jonas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Service on Feb. 19, 2026.
Louis A. Jonas, 95, a longtime resident of Old Bridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Born on July 4, 1930, in the Bronx, New York, Louis was the son of the late Alexander and Jenny Jonas. He lived a long and meaningful life defined by intelligence, kindness, and deep devotion to his family.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Adele Jonas, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. He was also predeceased by his sister, Dolores, and his brother, George.

Louis was a proud graduate of NYU and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Following his service, he was in the pharmaceutical industry for many years, and then built a career as an investigator with the State of Consumer Affairs, where he was known for his sharp mind and strong sense of integrity.

Above all, Louis was a devoted family man. In recent years, he made his home with his son Jeff Jonas and daughter-in-law Melanie Totten-Jonas, remaining closely surrounded by family. He is also survived by his daughter, Amy Jonas. He was a proud grandfather to Joelle, Madison, and Vanessa, all of whom brought him great joy.

Louis had a deep love of history and was an avid reader who rarely missed a day with The New York Times. He especially enjoyed crossword puzzles, thoughtful conversation, and staying engaged with the world around him. He also loved animals and treasured time spent with family.

Remembered as genuine, caring, and deeply intelligent, Louis leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength and enduring love.

Private graveside services will be held.
