Louis J. Morisi

Louis J. Morisi, age 86, of East Rutherford, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, surrounded by his family. Louis was born in Piacenza, Italy and immigrated to the United States at age 13 alongside his mother, Teresa, and brother Hector. His father, Francesco, had to remain in Italy to gain citizenship for 5 years. Louis had to drop out of school to provide for him and his family shortly after arriving to the United States. He began working at his uncle's Italian deli on the lower east side of Manhattan. Louis was married to his lovely wife, Carole Lavezzi in April 1961 and had two sons, Mark and Scott. Louis served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany at the end of 1961. During his time in the Army, Louis accomplished expert marksmanship and the rank of Corporal. He would later go on to become an owner of M&M Grocery in the late 1960's, which he worked seven days a week commuting to NYC for over 50 years. Louis and Carole built their dream home in East Rutherford, NJ in 1976 on the property beside Carole's parents, Frank and Theresa Lavezzi. They both lived there until Carole's death in March of 2005, which then lead Louis to relocate to Suffern, NY. After his wife's death, Louis kept himself busy by working around the house and spending time with his family and attending all his grandchildren's games and events. Due to his time in the service, Louis became a disabled veteran and spent his last few months of his life alongside fellow service members and wonderful care at the Veterans home in Paramus, NJ. He is survived by his sons Mark, and his wife Susan and Scott, and his wife Susan and brother, Hector. He also had four loving grandchildren, Niko, Anthony, Katelyn, and Dante. He is reunited with his wife Carole in Heaven. The family will receive friends on Friday November 22, 2024 from 4-7 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Service/Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday November 23, 2024, at Church of the Presentation at 271 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River, NJ 07458. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum in North Arlington.
