With great sadness, yet with the great
hope of resurrection, we share with you that Lou Wick, passed into the arms of
Jesus on Monday, May 1, 2023. Louis
Arthur Wick, 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Mountlake Terrace,
Washington. We thank God for his life
and legacy. He was a gift to his family
and so many friends and will be missed by all.
He will be deeply missed by his three
children; Steven Wick, Jerry Wick, and Robert Wick; his granddaughter, Berit
Wick; and his second wife, Juanita's four children; Renee Chambers, Terry Trudgeon,
Tamara Montoya, and Richelle Walker.
Lou was born October 10, 1928 in
Hamilton, Montana to parents Leif and Wanda Wick. He lived in Woodland, Washington until his
mother died suddenly of pneumonia when he was 10. He then moved in with relatives in Hamilton,
Montana where he completed high school (1946). He served in the US Army (1946-1948 in Japan)
which gave him the GI Bill. He attended
the University of Washington (1948-1952) where he received his degree in Business
Administration. He lived at the
University Christian Union men's house (Christian Fraternity) and was active at
University Presbyterian Church.
Lou was blessed with athletic
abilities and showed that starting in high school where he was the starting
quarterback for 3 years and they won the Class B football championship in his
senior year. He was starting guard and
top scorer on the basketball team. He was
number one on the tennis team for all four years as well as being selected for
the All-State team. After serving in the
Army where he played tennis, he chose the University of Washington and joined
the tennis team where he played all four years.
He was captain on the tennis team in his senior year.
Lou married Gloria Schlegel from Kalispell,
Montana in 1951 before his senior year in college and they made their home in north
Seattle. They had three boys; Steve,
Jerry, and Robb. Their marriage ended in
1971. Lou married Juanita Trudgeon in
1989 and became step-dad to her four children. From this family, he enjoyed 17 grandchildren
and 21 great grandchildren. They were married until 2022 when Juanita went to
be with the Lord.
Lou was in the commercial mortgage
banking business, had his own painting business, and worked with some other business ventures (aka Northgate
Slide) before landing at Boeing where he retired in 1993.
Tennis was always a major part of his
life and he always had a love and passion for it. He was well known in the tennis community and
participated in tennis tournaments throughout the Pacific Northwest. He has been ranked number one in the Pacific
Northwest, both singles and doubles, in every age category 35 through 75. He had many victories as he participated in Seattle
City, Pacific Northwest, Washington State, and even National Championships (he
won the USTA National Men's 90 Grass Court Singles Championship in 2018). Lou enjoyed working at the Harbor Square
Tennis Center and was both teaching and coaching in his 90's. He had a wonderful ability to bond with all
the guys and he loved passing on his knowledge of tennis to them.
Lou was an encourager, motivator,
always positive, and most importantly, he was a follower of Jesus Christ. With his faith he lived out the Christ-like example. What a great Friend, Servant, Husband, Father,
Grandfather, and a true Gentleman on and off the courts.
