Carlos Dale Wick passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 in Minot, with his children by his side.
Carlos was born on October 2, 1939 in Columbus, ND to Selma and Carl Wick. He graduated from Bowbells High School in 1958. Following graduation, Carlos enlisted and proudly served in the United States Airforce until his honorable discharge in 1960.
After concluding his duty in the Air Force, Carlos worked various jobs, and eventually relocated to Bottineau, ND, where he met and married Esther Cossette. During their marriage, Carlos and Esther were blessed with 4 children: Dennis, Robbie, Tanya and David. The family later moved to Minot, where Carlos would spend his career with the United States Postal Service until his retirement.
Carlos later met and married Tracey Hulm. He was blessed to be a stepdad to her four daughters: Tedi Jo, Roberta, Jen, and Andrea. They would later divorce.
Carlos loved sports. He grew up playing baseball and basketball. As an adult he played softball for many years. In addition to playing, he also coached adult women's softball. His love for sports carried over to his children. Carlos coached his children in grade school and junior high basketball and traveling basketball teams. He also coached his children's softball teams during their youth and his son, Rob's team as adults. Over his many years of coaching, Carlos earned the nickname 'Coach CW'.
Following his coaching and playing years, Carlos moved on to umpiring softball, which became a huge part of his life. He met so many people and made so many friends while umpiring. He was especially proud of his time umpiring the McQuade softball tournament in Bismarck every year. While umpiring, he met one of his best friends, Rich Green. Rich passed away while umpiring games during a McQuade softball tournament. A place they both loved. Carlos was eventually inducted into the softball hall of fame.
While growing up, Carlos's children always knew their dad as an avid pool player. This continued throughout most of his life until his decline in health no longer allowed him to play. He met so many great friends playing in multiple pool leagues through the years.
Carlos had a cancer diagnosis in 2019. He kicked cancers ass, but the treatments took a toll on his body. This left him without the ability to walk on his own. He spent the rest of his time under the care of Minot Health and Rehab. He touched so many people while he was there. He truly appreciated the care he received. He served as President of the Residents Council for a short time. This was something he was so proud of. He loved being challenged to a cribbage game with Dennis, or his granddaughter Madelen. He really enjoyed it when they would bring in live music to be played. Carlos had a great love for country music. He collected thousands of records over the years; eventually moving on to tapes, then CD's, and finally 'asking Alexa' to play his favorite songs while putting together his puzzles. He was a puzzle master. He had his own room and table at MHR where he would spend hours keeping his mind sharp by putting together those puzzles. He would often glue them together and frame them, then give them to those he loved.
Carlos was a huge Minnesota Timberwolves, Vikings and Twins fan. He would have daily conversations with his children about the games, any trades, and always wanted to know what time the games were on.
His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He truly loved every phone call and visit and all of the time they were able to spend together. He also loved his relationship with God. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all that had the privilege of knowing him.
Carlos is survived by his children: Dennis Wick, Robbie Wick, Tanya (Brock) Harstad; daughter in law, Kristen Wick; grandchildren: Devin Kampman, August Wick, Stella Wick, Mackenzie Wick, Corbin Wick, Madelen Wick, Owen Wick, Maxwell Wick; siblings: Alice Surber, Myrna Gray, Ann Tumara, Carol Hansen; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Selma Wick; his sisters: Lillian, Donna, and Betty; and his youngest son, David.
The family would like to extend their deepest heartfelt thanks to all who were by their side during these difficult times. You are forever in the hearts of our family. A special thanks goes out to the caring staff at Minot Health and Rehab.
