James "Jim" May, 70, Berthold, ND, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Trinity Hospital in Minot.
James Merrill May was born April 10, 1955, the son of Merrill L. and Lillie M. (Husby) May, in Mohall, ND. He was raised and educated in Mohall and Berthold, graduating in 1973.
Following high school, he worked at Beeter's, Daryl's Roustabout, Gratech, and lastly, Minot Paving, retiring in 2017.
He married Arlene Siercks on March 26, 1977. They made their home in Minot, Granville, Souris, Westhope, and settled in Berthold in 1997, where they raised their four sons, James Jr., Larry, Robert, and Daryl.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, tinkering on mechanic stuff, hunting, and riding motorcycles. He liked to play jokes on his kids and co-workers.
He was a member of the local 49ers.
His loving family includes: wife of 48 years, Arlene; sons, James Jr. (Shana) May, Robert (Kristen) May, and Daryl (Kim) May; grandchildren, James III, Madison, Jackson May, Lacole and Larissa May, Allyssa and Donald Weisenberger, Jaclynn Drake, and Tyson May; brothers-in-law, Gene (Sharon) Siercks, Howard Siercks; sister, Linda (Gary) Hansen; sisters-in-law, Beverley "Bev" Siercks, and Donna (David) Gruman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; and son, Larry.
Memorial Service: Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
Inurnment: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND.
Memorials: are preferred to charity of donor's choice.
