Louise J. Horton, 77, passed peacefully on December 16, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born on November 13, 1947, in Rockville Center, NY.
She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Reising and her husband Thomas of Killingworth, CT and their two sons, Grayson and Lincoln; her son Christopher Horton and his wife Sunho of Los Angeles, CA and their son Zachary; and her brother, Frederic Whaley of Beaufort, SC. Louise also leaves behind her dear companion Alex Bodo of Summerville, SC; her longtime good friend Donald Mack of Charleston, SC; and a circle of cherished friends and cornhole teammates at Summerville Estates. She was predeceased by her sister Denise Von Achen and her former husband Richard Horton.
Louise's family is profoundly grateful to her friends, including Debbie Gardner, who surrounded her with love and companionship, and to the hospice nurses (Taylor Hare, Summor Chambers and Lauren LaPointe) and caregivers (Tena Brown, Jean Miller, Sandy Murray and Latarsha Ragin) who provided extraordinary care, comfort and dignity in her final days. We will always remember your kindness. To those we may have missed, please know that we felt and will never forget your compassion and the care you showed Louise and our family.
Louise earned her Bachelor of Social Work, graduating cum laude from Southern Connecticut State University. She later obtained her Master of Social Work from the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. Throughout her professional life as a licensed clinical social worker, she dedicated herself to the well-being of others. Her work positively impacted many lives by providing support, guidance, and healing to those in need.
A memorial service will be held on January 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. ET at Summerville Estates in Summerville, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Louise's honor to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

My first memory of Louise is when she started working as a case manager at the same managed care company I worked for. She looked elegant and sophisticated. We bonded quickly and I learned that she had a great sense of humor and was very intelligent. It later emerged that she possessed many talents including, but certainly not limited to, a great singing voice. Louise and I became close friends and shared many good times and life events. I would like to share stories about when Louise made me laugh uncontrollably. But, this site is probably rated G. We used to share birthdays and holidays with our small group of friends. We went to professional seminars together, book signings, shopping and restaurants and so much more. She will be missed. Condolences to the family and significant others.
