Louise Moyer, a long-time resident of Berryton, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, after battling cancer. She was two days shy of her 94th birthday.
Louise was born on October 13, 1931, to Richard and Hazel (Evinger) Wendland in Topeka. She attended Highland Park High School, and in later years, frequently met with fellow alumni for dinner. She held various jobs before accepting a position at Jostens Yearbook Company, where she would be known for her meticulous attention to detail and her ability to bring joy to her colleagues for over 25 years. She retired from Jostens in 1997 but returned to help out during busy seasons for a few years afterward.
In February 1951, Louise married Denzil Moyer. In their nearly 70 years together, they raised many gardens. Louise especially enjoyed tending the flower beds and spent much time each summer canning fruits and vegetables. She also loved crocheting, and many homes adorn one of her hand-crafted blankets.
Louise had a passion for cooking that was more than a hobby. It was a means of expressing her love for family and friends. She will be remembered for always having a dessert prepared for unexpected guests, and how she made it look easy to put a full meal on the table for anyone who stopped by also. She was once featured in the Topeka Capital Journal as Cook of the Week, endearing her to many through her delicious recipes and cooking tips.
Louise's dedication to work and hobbies was mirrored in her commitment to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil; her parents, Richard and Hazel; a brother Richard; and three sisters, Pauline, Dixie, and Sandra. She is survived by a sister, Ann; her daughter, Denise (David) Frickey; her son, Darin (Micaela) Moyer; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense happiness and pride.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Louise's faith was important to her. She served in a number of callings since joining in 1960 but especially loved being a member of the Relief Society, visiting members of the congregation to see about their needs, and offering support where needed. Many lasting friendships developed from these visits over the years.
Louise will be missed by friends, family, and community alike, and long remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. A private graveside service will be planned at a later date.
