LOUISE ODES NEADERLAND
Louise passed away in her sleep on December 30, 2022. She had led a creative life but at 90 as Alzheimer's disease took over she left as she had wished.
Setting her own course was a hallmark of Louise's life. She was an artist in a cold water flat in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the 1960s. She and her husband-to-be Ralph traveled in South America and Turkey before that was common. The way images degenerated on 1970s copy machines and the way that medium supported political commentary hit her the right way. As a result. Louise founded the International Society of Copier Art in 1982 and led it for decades. Her works in various book art media are in the collections of galleries and major museums around the world.
Louise and Ralph raised two children, Zoe and Ben. She knew Ben and Katherine's children better as they were born while she was going strong. In the last year of her life she saw more of Zoe and Alan's children when she finally could no longer live on her own and fortunately was able to move to The Arbors, an excellent facility near them. Louise loved her apartment in Brooklyn-sitting on her balcony, conversing with her wonderful neighbors and fellow-artists, swimming at the YMCA pool, and observing the passing streams of people of New York City.
Even as Louise could be pessimistic, she also fiercely wanted the world set right. Those who wish may make donations in her name to Doctors Without Borders or the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
