Lovey Jane Long, 89 of Irvington, VA, died on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Lovey was born in Lewes, DE and was raised in Onancock on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She graduated with a degree in Political Science from Westhampton College/The University of Richmond in 1957. Following her marriage to Randolph Walker, Jr. in 1959, they moved to Richmond and raised two sons, Randy and Paul. In addition to being a homemaker, she held several positions, her most meaningful being a teacher of History at Douglas Freeman High School.
They later relocated to the Northern Neck of Virginia to operate Yankee Point Sailboat Marina and Lovey Jane opened "Lovey's Locker", a store to meet the needs of local sailors. She loved teaching, playing bridge with her friends, involvement in the Westhampton Alumni Association and sailing. Following her divorce, she remained in the Northern Neck and was an active member of her community. She attended Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock where she volunteered faithfully. She enjoyed being a docent at Historic Christ Church and supporting the Friends of Lancaster Public Library.
Lovey Jane is predeceased by her parents, Paul Eber Long and Harriet Nelson Long. She is survived by her sons Randolph Hastings Walker, III of Roanoke, VA and The Rev. Paul Nelson Walker (Christie) of Charlottesville, VA; her grandchildren Hilary, Glen and Rob Walker; and her loving companion, Jack Fackler.
Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to each of the staff at Rappahannock Westminster Canterbury for their dedicated care to Lovey Jane during her final years of life.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock, VA.
