Lovie Brim was born on August 28, 1924, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was one of the five children born to Love Manny Brim and Eula Brim. His mother knew right away that he was a gifted child and would one day be a great husband, father, provider, and friend.

He accepted Christ at a young age. He attended Peake High School and on November 9, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on February 15, 1946.

Lovie worked as an electrical engineer at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard for 33 years and 3 months. He was no stranger to hard work and taught his children that nothing in life is free; hard work pays off. In addition to being a hard worker, Lovie was a family man. He enjoyed the simple pleasures that life offered. His hobbies included church and offering wise counsel to anyone who would listen.

He was a long-time member of St. Paul AME Church where he served in the Men’s Choir, as a trustee and Steward. He was an avid gardener and loved fishing. He always believed in keeping the “owner’s manual” to things he purchased so that he could fix them himself.

Lovie’s life was simple, but not empty, and on May 24, 2024, he slept into the Lord’s embrace. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Grady Brim, Eddie C. Brim, John Brim, and Charles Brim, and his children, George Brim, Elliott Brim and Gwendolyn Brim Green.

Lovie’s well-lived and long-lived life will be cherished by his wife, Jerlene Brim of Arkadelphia; his children, Jeanette Carter of Sparkman, AR, Douglas Brim of Seattle, WA, and Dr. Gloria Brim of Tacoma, WA; his daughter-in-love, Janie Brim of Auburn, WA, his grandchildren, Horace (Lane) Carter, Jr., Kaye (Tony L.) Carter-Butler, Carmen Carter, Terrance (Renetta) Carter, Ricky Carter, Rockie (LaShanda) Carter, Shannon Brim-Armstrong, William George, Jr., Janay Harper, Javonya Stewart, Joi Stewart, Josuha Brown-Brim, Carmen Denham, Mark Green, Marvin Thigpen and William Green; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. His cousin/caregiver, Dorothy Newborn, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives; a string of friends, and the entire St. Paul AME Church family.

Public viewing will be at the funeral home on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Paul A.M.E. Church on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Rev. T. W. Scott, celebrant. The interment will be at Piney Grove Cemetery.
